Legend on the bench!

Many of us have been impacted by the lasting effects of losing our friends and family to suicide or mental illness, which can take many forms. It affects individuals, families and communities all over the UK and is either increasing or being more widely reported in the last few years.

At a recent “Legends Evening”, hosted by ex footballer Micky Hazard, he shared a personal story after losing a family member in tragic circumstances and his goal to install benches in as many local parks as possible to provide a safe place for someone struggling to cope, to go sit, reflect and relax, in pleasant surroundings, that also have contact information available to provide support options.

The total cost to have a bench installed in each location (including all council fees etc) is around £1800, but the value of each one will be priceless.

The benches can be used by anyone, either needing just to rest a while or seeking help without the is stigma around mental health being an issue.

The first bench will be installed at a park in the area personal to Micky’s family, but the plan is to have as many of these available in as many places as possible.

Everyone is experiencing the increased cost of living in one form or another, but for some people it gets overwhelming to the point of no return. But any donation that can be afforded by each of us will be greatly appreciated and help to drive this initiative forward.

To put it in perspective, if each football fan attending a Premier League game this weekend donated just £1, enough money would be raised for nearly 400 benches!

Please help Micky and his team get as many benches as possible to installed and start the process of reducing the number of mental health incidents or suicides, by providing the people in need with the information they need to get the support required.
