Help send me to represent Singapore in the Freediving World Championships in Roatan, Honduras this August!

Dear friends,

I would like to participate in the upcoming international freediving depth competitions in Roatan, Honduras this August 2019. And I need your help!

About me: Anqi Lim, Singapore

I have been participating in regional competitions since 2015 in the Philippines, Indonesia, Egypt, and Greece. During which I have continually improved my depth performances and am the current national record holder for Singapore.

Last year, in the Asian Freediving Cup held in Panglao, Philippines, I won the overall woman’s category and made three new national records: CWT 62m, FIM 58m, CNF 45m. You can view my dives here .

Now, I am reaching out to you to help me get to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, the largest freediving competition in the world (besides the AIDA World Championships) where the world's best freedivers gather to compete.

No Singaporean has ever participated in this competition before. This would be the first time a Singapore athlete participates in a competition of such a scale, amongst world champions. This would put Singapore on the freediving world map among the world's bests.

Singapore represent!
The competition will be dedicated to Singapore as a National Day gift on 9 August 2019. I hope that by this day I can have good results to celebrate Singapore's big day.

The goals of this competition:
1. Set new national records for Singapore
2. Put Singapore on the international freediving scene
3. Increase awareness and publicity of the sport in Singapore through live screening of the competition dives online and social media updates
4. Set a precedent that will lead to the formation of Team Singapore at future international freediving competitions

Competition details:
Caribbean Cup 1- 5 Aug

This will serve as a warm up to the World Championships.

CMAS World Championships 6-11 Aug

This event will be screened live using the Diveye! So you can watch top athletes attain unimaginable depths in various disciplines and new world records being made, all in real time. You can also watch me dive and give me moral support!

Both competitions are held in Roatan, Honduras, a beautiful island in the Caribbean, with fantastic conditions for diving. This means we can expect great dives from athletes and amazing performances.

As the sport is still fairly new in Singapore, currently there is no sponsorship for local athletes. As most top-level athletes will know, it takes a lot of discipline and dedication to commit to a sport.

To perform at a world-class level, one needs time and money to train and stay motivated regardless of obstacles. This is especially so for a sports like freediving as we usually never know how deep we can go. We can only say every time that we have tried our best while we attempt to go beyond our limits.

Here is the breakdown of the funds needed for the period of the competition and all expenses for training preparation before the event:

Competition registration fees: $1200
Medical and Insurance: $300
Flights/travel Singapore to US: $800
Flights/travel to Roatan: $500
Return flights/travel : $1200
Dive training: $600
Accommodation: $900
Dive Equipment : $550
Health supplements and meals: $200
Misc expenses/fees: $250

Total Estimated Expenses: $6500

What you will receive for your contributions:

THANK YOUs
I would love to thank each one of you individually. However, should you choose to remain anonymous, please accept my thanks in advance from the bottom of my heart.

Competition Updates:
I will be posting updates of the competition online and on social media. You will be able to follow the competition live from Roatan.

Brand new Suunto D6i Novo !!!
Each $500 contribution and above will give you a chance in a lucky draw for the Suunto D6i (white) dive computer! I won this in the Asian Freediving Cup last year. The lucky winner will receive this new watch in its full packaging, with a complimentary Suunto case included!

Follow me into the deep...

I am currently attempting to start some training preparations. The deadline for registration is 30 June. I hope to do you, me, and my country proud. Only with your support, will this be possible.

From the depth of my heart, thank you for supporting this sport, my country and my passion for the ocean.

IMPORTANT UPDATES (PLS READ):
I will be continuing to let this campaign run til even after the competition. Gofundme platform ensures that even if funds raised are more than target, the funds will still go towards the beneficiary.

At this moment I like to state 3 things the additional funds above the goal amount will go towards:

1. $350 : CMAS WC registration fees for Shuyi Chua, a fellow Singaporean Freediver who has shown great dedication and improvements to the sport. Initially her plan was to join only the Caribbean cup, but since arriving in Roatan, she has been inspired by all athletes here to join also the CMAS WC. Her participation will also allow us to have a team so a TEAM singapore present at the world champs! The photo you see here is of Shuyi and myself training here in Roatan.

2. Singapore will have its second depth competition held in Bali in September. Organised by AAS, it is to encourage Singaporean divers to compete and increase awareness for the sport. Additional funds coming through this campaign will go towards subsidising 10% of registration fees per SINGAPOREAN athlete (capped at $300 total).

3. Any excess after the above mentioned will go towards funding participation in other future competitions which I would like to participate for the rest of the year. October: Infinity Depth Games, Cyprus November: Sabang competition, Indonesia

I feel very encouraged by the support given and hope in time to come there will be more government funding for sports in Singapore to allow every athlete the chance to compete internationally. Once again thank you for making this dream come true!
