Fund Menstrual Products for UCLA!

Donation protected
Periods suck. But the cost of getting your period sucks even more.

According to Huffington Post,

The average person has some 456 total periods over 38 years. Generally, people who deal with menstruation will use more than 9,000 tampons or pads in their lifetime.

One box of tampons cost $8.19 per box at Walgreens.
With over 9,000 tampons being used, $2,074.80 is spent on tampons alone.

Using the same math, $8.49 per package of maxi pads at Walgreens will cost a person $2,150.80 on pads alone.

Including other products, such as medicine or birth control, a person can spend up to $18,171 worth of products for a natural process.

Menstrual blood is no dirtier than any other body fluid.

UCLA has more menstruating bodies on campus then non-menstruating bodies. Then why is it that no entity on campus provides access to free pads and tampons? Tampons and pads are created to make more money off of people with menstrual cycles. They should be free on campus just like toilet paper and condoms, no questions asked and without shame.

Menstruation should NOT have to be another financial burden on college students, especially considering rising tuition and the costs to living and surviving in Westwood.

Tampons, pads, pantyliners, menstrual cups, soft cups, and leak-free underwear should not be treated as luxury items.

A few students at UCLA want to provide UCLA students with free pads and tampons across campus. We ask that you donate how much you can (every little bit counts!) so we can purchase tampons and pads for UCLA's campus. Each student should be able to grab a pad or tampon without having to go across campus to Ackerman or Luvalle to buy basic human necessities.

We will be raising money the entire quarter (and year if need be) to purchase pads and tampons. We assure you (and will prove it) that each dollar (minus the gofundme fees) will go towards buying pads and tampons. We intend to create menstrual kits that will be placed in every office that wishes to participate within Kerckhoff, where students can easily go and pick up a pad or tampon as they need to. We hope to expand these kits to other entities on campus with the more resources we receive!

This will be one step in our ongoing advocacy work to encourage the campus, administrators and Ashe Health Center to provide students with long-term free menstrual resources.

Let's destigmatize conversation about our periods, decolonize our minds and fight for free access to basic necessities!

Thank you so so much. We appreciate you all!
