Freshstart 2018
Donation protected
I was an over the road trucker for 27 years when an annual exam detected prostate cancer. During the surgery for that they did a biopsy of my only functioning kidney and found I had stage 2 renal kidney failure… it was operating at about 20 percent.
Following surgery I had to have a second one to implant a port to begin immediate dialysis or I would have died. As a result, dialysis has become necessary three times a week putting an end to my driving career and pretty much anything major I might want to do in life.
At age 56 and after six years of this process, I have finally been placed on the donor list and it could be any day. If someone wanted to be a living donor, I wouldn’t have to wait on the donor list. (My blood type is 0+) The person who may want to be a living donor would need to be tested to see if they were a match. Insurance covers everything for that person except lost wages. If you would be interested in doing this for me you can contact Amie Duemer with Southwest UT Transplant office at University Medical Center Lubbock Organs from living donors increase the recipient’s life expectancy more than from a deceased donor.
I am in need of financial help to cover my part of the expenses not covered by insurance which could be up to $6,000. Right now I have a part time security gig driving around a shopping center parking lot, and occasionally drive for Uber and Lift. Even with social security disability things are often quite tight, but recovery time could be two to three months depending on how my body accepts the new organ and how fast I can get on my feet. So I would need funds to live on those months.
With God’s blessing and the help of you good people I hope to be able to proceed with this second chance at life. Anything you can do is appreciated.
