Friends of Lanark County is a group of concerned citizens whose focus is on public education around local pesticide issues. For the past three years we have made official presentations to municipal governments in and near Lanark County, prepared and hand-delivered educational flyers, and held local events. In a more practical sense, we have been actively involved in adopting many kilometers of roadways in Lanark County and have physically removed thousands of “invasive" plants to prevent our neighbourhoods from spraying. This Adopt-A-Road program was established in collaboration with county officials and has definitely proven to be a successful non-chemical strategy.
Pesticide use is widespread and in many cases, unchecked. The toxic long-term effects of pesticides is generally understated and not widely understood. Your financial support will allow us to continue our educational mandate through signage, flyers, public presentations and lobbying strategies.
We also want to bring in expert speakers who can teach residents here how insects, and other wildlife including turtles and birds are being seriously impacted directly and indirectly by pesticides.
Our fragile ecosystem needs to be protected from harmful chemicals, now and for future generations. Your financial contribution and moral support will help us with a comprehensive outreach and educational effort in Lanark County. Join us today and say no the toxic chemicals and yes to making well informed intelligent decisions for the protection of the environment that we all share.
Here is a link to our latest project: a music video called Environmental Dreamin , a song about spraying near turtle nesting sites
