Riley’s Chest surgery

Donation protected
Hi everyone my name is Riley I am a 32 year old transgender male. What it means to be transgender is that my gender does not align with my assigned sex at birth.

I am here today to raise not only money for my chest surgery though awareness of what its like being a transgender person living in todays society.

I get regular testosterone injections every 8 weeks, this is also none as HRT ( hormone replacement therapy) Testosterone helps my body change to match my gender.

changes are slow when taking testosterone, though vary from person to person depending on the persons genes. The changes for me are very rewarding, especially when I look in the mirror and feel at one with body and mind.

When someone gets to a point in their journey, where they start to appear as the gender they truely are, to themselves and the wider community, this is a term referred to as “passing"

My next step on my journey is chest surgery. The reason I want to get chest surgery as badly as I do, is to remove my gender dysphoria. My gender dysphoria is around my chest area. I want to be free from wearing binders and be free to walk around in my own home, shirtless.

I get highly anxious and distressed when I am not wearing my binder outside the house. My binder is worn to flatten my chest down and help my chest appear masculine.

I can not leave my house without wearing my binder. I sometimes need to wear the binder at home, when I have guests over or check the mail box, hang the washing out, etc.

Unfortunately chest surgery is considered a cosmetic surgery and a persons choice, so in saying that the Medicare rebate is rather insignificant. Chest surgery can range from $9000- $12,000 mark and varies from person to person.

I have decided to push my surgery back one year and get private health insurance, even though private health is expensive, especially getting a cover that will cover “cosmetic surgeries” it will assist with cutting my out of pocket expenses down and cover me for any complications.

My goal is to raise half the money of the chest surgery, which is around $5000 as well as simultaneously spread awareness through sharing and documenting my personal joinery with you.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, or even taken the time to read about my journey. I look forward to sharing my post op pics with you all. Thanks for making my dreams come true.

Love Riley
