Fund A Pacifist

Service Civil International (SCI) is a volunteer organisation dedicated to promoting a culture of peace by organising international voluntary projects for people of all ages and backgrounds. The organisation consists of 42 branches and an ever growing number of partner organisations.

In October 2017 we will be organising our Exchange Platform Meeting where different branches and partners come together to exchange best practices/ideas and pave the road for future partnerships. The meeting is crucial for our values of solidarity and all-inclusiveness. A previous participant noted that:

"Having a meeting like EPM is really important, as it is a unique space for SCI staff and members to evaluate together our main activities and find ways to improve them. I find it very inspiring that such a meeting is self-organized by the volunteers in the prep team, with the help of many other volunteers in SCI working groups and also staff members in some branches."
- Marta Palau Alba, EPM Prep-Team 2016

However! Some of our partners won't be able to come as they can't afford it, despite some of the amazing work they do in their countries. As we think its crucial for these partners to attend the discussions and in order for them to raise their voices with ours, we are asking for donations to fund their trip! These donations would go towards their travel to the meeting in France.

Here are some of the organisations you could help get to the Exchange Platform:

Volontariat Sans Frontière (VSFr) – Tunisia

Je suis bénévole, alors j'existe
(I am a volunteer, therefore I exist)

VSFr is a non-profit organization (established since 2013) that works to include citizens, especially young people, in a process of cultivating solidarity (raghata), meeting peoples and the preservation of the environment on the basis of local, national and international volunteerism.

The philosophy of the association is manifested, among other things, through an openness to different cultures, with the invitation of European groups and the programming of international projects. This serves as a solid basis for fostering openness to others in the context of promoting a culture of peace based on mutual respect and universal values.

They have two voluntary projects planned for this year: a Farming Camp and a Cultural Festival. Support their trip to the Exchange Platform!

Espace Volontariat Oujda (EVO) - Morocco

The association Espace Volontariat Oujda (EVO)  -founded in 2003 in Oujda - is an association of young civil servants of the City of Oujda (Morocco) who have volunteered to create and promote voluntary actions.

The objectives of EVO include:

- Creating an atmosphere of peace, coexistence, solidarity and volunteerism;
Preservation of the environment and the historical architectural heritage;
- Inclusion of young people in local development and raising awareness of their rights and duties;
- Contribute to raising the level of sports, cultural and intellectual education;
- Give actors the opportunity to create and innovate.

They have three voluntary projects planned for this year: a youth empowerment project, a world heritage project, and a renovation project. Support their trip to the Exchange Platform!

UVIKIUTA - Tanzania

UVIKIUTA is a vibrant youth development organization that values volunteerism as a tool for sustainable development.

UVIKIUTA is working towards improving the living standards of the youths by facilitating them to be self-employed, having permanent shelters, getting income, improving education and skill so as to be self-reliant. UVIKIUTA’s program offer a powerful vision built on the belief that partnership with local communities has a vital role to play in development and in building a more just and sustainable world community.

UVIKIUTA is among the founding members of Eastern African Voluntary Service Network (EAVS-Network) and a long term partner with Service Civil International (SCI). They have a long experience from volunteering (35 years next year!) and they have missed a few of the latest international meetings that we would really like to see them attend this year!

There are 15 voluntary projects in Tanzania still to come this year, including a HIV-Aids awareness project; environmental conservasion projects; and, peace and climate change projects. Support their trip to the Exchange Platform!

International Volunteers for Peace (IVP) - Indonesia

IVP Indonesia is a small, young and enthusiastic organization, which aims to be member of SCI this year. IVP (International Volunteers for Peace)  focuses, as the name indicates, on peace and organizes this year two No-More-War camps (camps with specific emphasis on peace, antimilitarism and/or non-violence) in the province of Maluku, East Indonesia.

In a relatively short time-frame IVP-ID organized two group-exchanges with SCI Hong Kong and the organization is rather active in the Asian Development Committee of SCI. The amount of active volunteers is steadily growing and the group is eager to get in touch with other branches and partners of SCI. Participation in the EPM would strongly help this goal. Support their trip to the Exchange Platform!

SCI Nepal

SCI Nepal is a longstanding branch of SCI. The branch spends a lot of effort on the theme of cultural heritage to preserve the rich Nepalese culture. Peace was and is another ongoing theme. The last two years the emphasis has shifted to recovery and relief work since the devastating earthquake on 25 April 2015. The local groups in Panauti and Bhaktapur, both not far from the capital Kathmandu, organized workcamps in affected areas. Not only workcamps were organised, but other relief-activities were organised in cooperation with other NGO’s.

A volunteer-report of one of those activities can be read here . As there is a lot of work involved on the national level, it is important for SCI Nepal to attend the EPM to keep in touch with other branches and partners. Hopefully they will be able to! Support their trip to the Exchange Platform!
