Fundraiser for David B Pearson

What This Is About
Our dear friend David B. Pearson is in desperate straits, and needs your help to get through a
really rough patch in his life. His father died suddenly a few days ago, and his mother is in a rest
home suffering from Alzheimer’s. All of the family’s assets are being diverted to pay for his
mother’s care, which leaves David destitute, with only enough food in the house to last him
another couple of weeks, and no way to get to a grocery store or pay the bills.
We adore David, and want to help him get back on his feet. He needs to sell his family home —
which is miles from the nearest town — so the proceeds can ensure his mother’s continuing care.
He needs these funds, not just for basic expenses, but also to support himself as he gets
relocated to someplace where he can start fresh following the disposition of his father’s estate.
Who Is David?
Our friend David is dry, witty, acerbic, immensely intelligent and deeply, deeply devoted not only
to film history but those close to him. He has the softest heart of anyone we know.
David suffers from Asperger’s Disorder, a form of high-functioning autism often referred to as
autism spectrum disorder. Despite his disability, David has earned a Master’s degree in history,
has made a reputation for himself as an internationally known silent film historian, and is an
award-winning graphic designer.
The Backstory
For the past few years, David has been caring for his elderly parents, both with Alzheimer’s. A
few months ago, despite his best efforts, his beloved mother was placed in a rest home, and
David had been struggling to care for his father, whose condition had worsened dramatically
since his mother left. His father died unexpectedly a few nights ago, which makes David’s already
precarious financial situation dire. Not only are we heartsick at his loss, we are worried for David's
well being.
The family home is seven miles from the nearest town, Picayune, Mississippi, and because his
distance vision isn’t good enough, he is unable to get a driver’s license. He is essentially trapped
in the house, because he doesn’t have enough money to pay for a cab or Uber.
He hadn’t been to visit his mother, who is in a rest home in Picayune, for about two months, until
the night his father died, when the coroner kindly gave him a ride so he could spend the night with
her.
He will need to pay for utilities, and has no transportation to take him to any of his own medical
appointments, pay for his medication, buy groceries or to see his mother. As such, we have
started this fundraiser to keep him safe and well until his father’s estate can be settled, and he
can get moved to a place where he is not so isolated and can take care of himself.
Please Help Us Help David
David has dedicated his life to three things: taking care of his parents, caring deeply for those
close to him, and promoting and preserving silent film comedy. What more can one ask of life
than to encourage laughter in such tumultuous times. David needs a hand. Please extend yours
and help if you can.
