Funds for Rochita Loenen-Ruiz
Rochita Loenen-Ruiz is a Filipina writer of fantasy and science fiction who lives in the Netherlands. Her stories have been published in Interzone, Clarkesworld, the Philippine Speculative Fiction series and other venues, and she writes a non-fiction column for Strange Horizons, among many, many other activities.
Her life is currently going through some upheavals, and she and her family could really use some help with their finances. ETA: since it's now public, we can say that she has just lost her husband and the father of her children.
Rochita has always been very generous with her time and always seeking to help and support the community in whatever way she could, and we would love for the community to help her now--in whatever way you can afford, we know it's not always easy!
Anything above the target goal will be used to help Rochita--the need is serious and we would really like to help her as much as possible.
As a thank-you for your help, we've put together some rewards for donors:
All donors will gain access to our downloadables microsite, which currently contains: a Xuya sampler ebook by Aliette de Bodard; poems by Rose Lemberg, Shveta Thakrar, Lev Mirov , and E.P. Beaumont ; stories by Ursula Vernon , JY Yang , Tricia Sullivan , Elizabeth Bear , and Stephanie Burgis ; a downloadable coloring book by Melanie Ujimori and Rhiannon Rasmussen-Silverstein ; and printable coloring sheets by Likhain. As the campaign proceeds we'll update this with more downloadables. Access to the microsite is sent to all donors via thank-you note. We've moved our contributor gifts list to the microsite, as well!
Update: We've hit our target -- thank you so much for your generosity, all! We know that Rochita could use every bit of help in this time of grief and upheaval, so we are keeping the campaign open for the next two weeks because we want to give her as much help as we possibly can.
