Furnish the Gap: Tjuntjuntjara Community Appeal
Imagine if you had a brand new house to live in, but no furniture or appliances to go with it? No beds, tables or chairs, a fridge or even a washing machine to clean your clothes?
That is the reality for the people of the Tjuntjuntjara community... a remote indigenous community that is about to receive 10 brand new and 12 upgraded houses thanks to State and Cth funding - but they don't have the resources or funds to purchase the essential items that make a house a home.

Who and Where we are:
Tjuntjuntjara is located in the southeast of Western Australia, in the Great Victoria Desert (just inside the Great Victoria Desert Nature Reserve). It is about 690 kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie. The nearest place with more people is the town of Laverton, 460 km away. Tjuntjuntjara is connected to Irrunytju in the north by a dirt track. Access to the community is regulated by entry permits.
The Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) manages the Tjuntjuntjara community on behalf of the Spinifex people and is coordinating this appeal on behalf of the community. PTAC an accept gifts or donations on behalf of donors that are tax deductible and directly benefit the community we serve.
What we need:
In short, there will be no furniture and white goods in the new houses if people can't afford to buy what they need. It’s a real affordability issue.
We are looking for the public’s assistance to raise money or donate physical items so that we can supply the following items to the community:
· Storage and transport of all items to Tjuntjuntjara
· Bedframes
· Bedding – blankets, sheets, doona covers
· Washing machines
· Fridges
· Dining furniture sets
· Kettles
· Microwaves
