Gary's New Kidney
Donation protected
If you know these two, you know they love life. They love their friends, family, pets, traveling and each other! They are full-time RVers, traveling the US with Murphy (the dog) and Charlie (the cat) at their side is where they find their joy. What they don't love is asking for help, so I (their daughter) am doing it for them.
2016 brought a surprise diagnosis of kidney failure for Gary and a flood of doctor's appointments, medications and unplanned expenses...and the quest for a kidney transplant. Georgann was ready and willing to donate but was not a match for Gary so decided to participate in the donation exchange program; her kidney would go to an unknown recipient while a match was found for Gary.
The stars aligned and surgery was scheduled for 6/19! However, the night before, they got the dreaded call that Gary's donor kidney was no longer available. It was a sad night.
Knowing there was someone (that had the same rare blood type she did) waiting for her healthy kidney, Georgann did not want another family to get the same call and went ahead with the surgery on 6/19. Everything went well, she is recovering and somewhere on the East Coast, a man has a new "California Girl" kidney - we send our best wishes for his recovery. Our fingers are crossed that a kidney will soon be on it's way for Gary!
In the meantime, medical bills are piling up....and we know it's gonna get even harder when it comes time for surgery and those anti-rejection medications. They have already put travelling on hold, temporarily moved in with us and are just waiting......
