German victim of shooting
Donation protected
A 60 year old German tourist was shot in the head while driving on the Highway west of Cochrane, Alberta. He was just enjoying his vacation together with his family. He is in hospital in critical condition now. The family members have no significant injuries.
Dear supporters, I herewith want to close this fundraiser. Your immediate response was much more than overwhelming. You made a huge difference on 2 levels: for once funds were needed immediately and on the other side your very touching comments and the number of supporters created the feeling that the family is not alone in this.
As promised I want to give you all an update: The victim shows symptoms of severe and life-changing injuries. He is not able to talk or move his right side. The doctors were not able to remove the bullet from his brain, as they would have to cause further damage. He is now on his way home to Germany, with a special aircraft, where he will be further treated in a hospital specialized on brain injuries. His wife, having left Canada as well, wants to express her sincere gratitude to all who helped the family so impressively in so many different ways. Now a very long road to recovery will begin with an unknown outcome. I trust I am speaking on all of your behalf as well, wishing them all the strength for the days ahead and hoping that we will welcome them back in Alberta one day, where they have extended family and all of you as their new friends! Thank you all again, so very much, for your support!
