Behind the Mask

Join us and #GetBehindTheMask to protect our healthcare workers.
Our Goal:
As COVID-19 continues to spread in the United States, doctors and other healthcare workers are experiencing limited availability of personal protective equipment including masks and gowns. Those on the frontline combating this virus must have the protective gear needed to keep them safe.
The Change Crowd, LA Relaxed, and Camille Kostek are working with an established international and domestic supply chain with access to medical grade masks and mask covers. Every dollar goes directly towards purchasing and creating masks and other medical apparel for healthcare workers in need.
Every dollar counts. Every mask counts. Thank you so much for your contribution!
#GetBehindTheMask
Who are we?
We are a group of like-minded female entrepreneurs in the apparel industry from Los Angeles who are bringing our resources together to aid in supplying and creating masks. This is our way of doing our part to get personal protective equipment to those most in need.
The Change Crowd is Betsy Franjola and Joanne Paek, formed in 2018 as a Los Angeles fashion consultancy that partners with non-profit organizations to help raise funding and awareness for their cause. Betsy and Joanne have over 20 years of experience in NY and LA fashion brands, experienced in fabric sourcing, product development, to production management.
Dana Weinstein is the founder and CEO of LA Relaxed, a sustainably-focused collection of lounge inspired pieces that are ethically made in Los Angeles. Dana has over 30 years of experience with both domestic and international apparel manufacturing.
What have we accomplished so far?
We have secured our initial order of 30,000 masks and we will use your donations to support the ongoing need.
This week, we have sent 10,000 masks each to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey and Boston Medical Center in Massachusetts.
Here in Los Angeles, we are partnered with a manufacturer that is ready to produce mask covers.
Where will the funds go?
100% of the funds will go directly towards purchasing masks and other PPE.
Why aren’t the hospitals & government ordering these masks directly?
Medical supply distributors are having supply chain issues with the demand of a pandemic, which is increasing exponentially day by day. Not all hospitals and organizations are set up to import directly from overseas suppliers, typically ordering from their contracted medical supply company. The import process for medical masks is challenging due to required FDA approvals and certifications, and machinery and materials are limited. We are working with a trusted supplier, with an already established relationship.
How will we get these masks to recipients?
We have partnered with Flexport and Medshare to import FDA certified masks and PPE.
Flexport enables organizations to deliver global aid and impact - and meet their sustainability goals with greater ease and lower costs. They are focusing all of their resources on getting supplies to frontline health care workers combating COVID-19.
MedShare is a 501(c)(3) humanitarian aid organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of people, communities and our planet by sourcing and directly delivering surplus medical supplies and equipment to communities in need around the world and. In light of COVID-19, for the first time, they are supplying the USA.
