Most people know a few things about me: 1. I love doing work that makes a difference in the world. Those jobs have never paid much. I don't complain much, but I can't do much besides keep my head above water. 2. I plan to go to Bridgewater State in the Fall to get my Master's in Mental Health Counseling so I can keep making a difference, but with better tools. In the end, this plan should make it so I am also living a little less close to the bone, so it feels like a win-win.
The first steps I need to take towards that goal are taking the GRE (apparently, my scores from 1992 are no longer useable for my application), which costs $205, and submitting my application, which costs $50.
This small amount may seem like something I should be able to swing, but, alas, between some recent car repairs and the tail end of my monthly payments for my medical stuff from last year, I just can't squeak it out of my budget in the next month, when I'll need to take the test.
It feels weird asking for this small amount from acquantences, but I've gone to the well of my close friends and family enouth over the years, and since this would only require a handful of people tossing $5-10 at the cause, I thought it would be worth a shot.
And since I get a lot of compliments on my writing from some of you, I promise that I'll write something, on any topic, for any occasion, for anyone who sends me something. An anniversary poem for the tongue-tied, a tribute to a friend at their retirement, a heartfelt story about you, that you can share with your kids one day.
What do you think? Is this crazy? Arrogant? Brilliant?
Once I hit the button, I can't go back, so if you think it's greedy or rude, I'm sorry you think that and I hope you don't hold it against me. I'm just trying to get something done for myself, so I can get something done for others.
Oh, and if you can't send anything but well-wishes, I am always always grateful for those!
