ERIC WATERS - Rebuilding, One Image At A Time
Hurricane Katrina's levee breach took the home of one of New Orleans' most revered and respected photographers, Eric Waters. Many of his photos, cameras and negatives were lost forever, but this did not keep him down. He persevered with true NOLAtude and suffered through the processes necessary to rebuild his home. He traveled from Atlanta to New Orleans in the interim to continue documenting the culture.
Unfortunately, his house was never completed due to contractor fraud. Undeterred, Eric continues to travel to document the culture. 9 1/2 years later, he remains in exile and is desperately needed back in New Orleans on a full time basis. As one of the premiere documentarians of New Orleans culture, he is renowned as the "culture keeper" for so many. We've started this campaign to rebuild his home, and to bring him back to New Orleans where he is loved and needed.
The essence of how much Eric Waters means to the culture and the City of New Orleans is captured extremely well in an article spotlighting his presence at 20+ New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festivals.
