HELP GET JOYCE HOME *Please share*
My 74 year old mother, Joyce Kettle was on the cruise ship Morella Discovery 2 with TUI (Thomson’s) accompanied by a friend and friend’s son. At 03:00 GMT on 29/01/18, after leaving the port near Mexico we received a phone call letting us know Joyce had taken bad. Following examination by the on-board doctor for breathing difficulties it was decided she needed urgent medical attention and was transfered to hospital, alone.
Upon arrival the hospital it was discovered that the travel insurance she had was insufficient for the location, believing she had blanket cover with her bank account it subsequently turned out she wasn’t covered for Mexico. Joyce underwent an emergency heart procedure with 3 stents required, taking place 29/01/18. The exact cause and prognosis is still unclear, with communication both with medical professionals and my mam extremely limited. Direct Line (the underwriters) in true insurance company fashion, immediately informed my mam that her cover was null and void causing untold additional stress, and with a medical bill currently (30/01/18) standing at $72,662 MINUS DOCTORS FEES AND IS RISING, we’re now left with our mam stuck in a foreign country on the other side of the world.
We have managed to speak with Joyce who is currently in recovery, we are trying to remain positive to support her from so far away but in truth we don’t quite know what to do. We have been advised to not fly out to Mexico by the British Embassy unless absolutely necessary as cost of flights etc. could be used towards medical bills. We’re desperate to see our loving mam & nana and we're missing her and the worry is crushing us hourly but at this time we have to consider how we’re realistically going to get Joyce back on home soil and deal with an eye watering medical bill.
We’re a proud family and never anticipated having to do anything like this but we really need your help, no matter how small it is, as we simply don’t know how else we’ll get my mam back to us!
