Help Nicola

Hi, my name is Liz Lambert and  i'm doing this for my friend Nicola Maull on behalf of all of her friends and family. Especially her famiy! Nicola is the most fun, loving, generous, kind hearted, witty gorgeous person i know. Everyone who knows Nic will totally agree 100% with that statement. Nic has been poorly for almost a year now, She was running her own prom business, had an extremely stressfull busy life with the business then about 18/20 months ago Nic just didnt feel herself, put it down to stress with the business mainly. Nic kept getting a tingly sensation in her legs which i agreed would probably stress related as i'd had something similar. Anyway this worsened and Nic started to collapse, no warning at all, her GP told her to take herself off to A&E, which she did numerous times following this. She had an MRI scan at the RVI in Newcastle but the results seemed to take forever until Nic emailed the hospital out off frustration, they rang her a day or two later at 11pm and asked her to go to hospital first thing the next morning. As Steve (her partner) drove her to hospital she been to lose the feeling ing her legs then arms, by the time they reached the hospital she was so poorly and needed a trachy due to respiratory problems. Almost a year later and so many test and treatments they doctors are saying is a disease called NMO. In a nutshell, its a rare auto immune condition that attacks the central nervous system and myelin that protects the spinal cord. The treatments are plasma exchanges, steroids and of course chemo, but as the condition effects each person differently, Nic hasnt responded to the usual treatments. Due to the inflammation of the central nervous system it causes brain stem swelling which causes respiratory problems. Relapses can happen any time and are unpredictable, and can leadto further disablement and paralysis (which has happened in Nic's case) There is still no known cure and the cause of onset is also unknown.
Nicola has been parted from her partner Steve and her 9 year old, Niall for 11months. Hopefully with the help of different donations and charity events she will be able to come home where she belongs, but will need 24 hour care as she can stop breathing at any time. In order for this to happen Nic needs her home ready, some of the things needed are, an airflow bed,  a track hoist,  a voice controlled wheelchair,  ramps to access the house and a wet room downstairs.
The funds are starting to come in lovely and Nicola is overwhelmed with peoples generosity but we need more, therefore we as friends ask for any help however big or small. Nic being at home means she can see her son every single day, and her friends and family will always be at hand. Click on the link to get a better understanding of Nicola's dire situation. Thanks so much in advance from the bottom of our hearts. xx

Just an update 26th May- Nicola has now returned home and the latest is Nicola is NOT entitled to physiotherapy, or a bath, she also has to buy her own car for them to get out as a family or even for the carers to just get Nic out of the four walls. So Monies raised will now be going towards a wheelchair accessible car. We as friends and family owe it to Nic to help as much as we can, for the simple reason she would do or has done exactly that for all of us! xxx
