Fund a 2e teacher champion
Donation protected
UPDATE: In addition to the teacher from Cascadia Elementary, we are now fundraising for a portion of the costs to send 2 West Woodland Elementary teachers to this training! These will be a Gen Ed and a Special Ed teacher. One of them has a consultant role with the district and will be able to share the best practices beyond their school. (We increased the goal from $1,500 to $2,500.)
Teacher Yelena Amundsen from Cascadia Elementary is passionate to help her 2e students thrive and she wants to add new tools to her toolkit! Let's help her!
"What I love most about working with the 2e population is helping students learn the tools they need to be more independent. I really enjoy helping students recognize their potential and meet their goals. I absolutely love working with gen ed teachers as an advocate for my 2e students, and would love to hone new skills!"
Teachers in Seattle public schools receive very little to no training in Gifted and Twice Exceptional (2e)* students education. In the meantime, all research points to the fact that especially these children require a deeper kind of learning and engagement to nurture their talents - and in the absence of this they disengage, fall through the cracks or worse.
We are a group of parents of gifted and 2e students that want to see our kids' amazing potential realized, both for their well being and that of Society at large - and we know that teachers are the ones best positioned to make a difference for these children!
We would like to send at least one Seattle Public School teacher to an outstanding professional development provided by Bridges Academy's premier research center for understanding and teaching the growing population of 2e students. (You may have seen them featured in the documentary 2e: Twice Exceptional).
The estimate cost for one teacher to go is $2,500 (including $1000 for tuition, $400 for air tickets, $500 for lodging and $600 for food and transportation). Cascadia Elementary PTA will cover the cost for the tuition!
Space is limited - so we would appreciate your donations as soon as possible.
*Jane Austin, Marie Curie, Charles Darwin, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Mozart, Einstein are only a few of the names of personalities that advanced the human knowledge and are believed to have been gifted while having learning differences.
