Mental health placement- Sri Lanka!
Donation protected
This summer, I was accepted on a life changing 5 week mental health and psychology placement to Sri Lanka beginning on the 14th of May. I am unbelievably excited to be taking part in this opportunity.
Throughout my placement I want to completely immerse myself into the Sri Lankan culture, by living in a homestay with a local family, eating traditional Sri Lankan food and learning the local language. However, unlike a holiday, I am travelling to Sri Lanka to learn, experience and take part in improving the mental well being of those living there.
Much of my time in Sri Lanka will be spent with those suffering from mental health issues, using creative exercises to hopefully reduce anxiety amongst other disorders. I will also be planning language workshops, teaching English to adults and children to not only improve their communication, but through creative learning boost their confidence and other social skills. I will also spend some time with children with special needs, including autism and ADHD to increase their skills as well.
Resources and practitioners of mental health are so few in Sri Lanka that the majority of those who suffer from mental health problems go untreated, as there is nothing available. I am so eager to travel to Sri Lanka, hoping that I can help lend a small hand in what is a very real and important issue that I am passionate about.
Any support and donations received are so gratefully appreciated, by me and by the community in Sri Lanka that I will be working with during my placement.
I can't explain how important having support is to me on this life changing experience, its unlike anything I've ever taken part in before and I can't wait to get started.
