Girl's Rite of Passage Program
Donation protected
Help Fire & Flower raise funds needed to start a coming-of-age rite of passage program for girls ages 12-14. The 4-month program provides a meaningful and holistic transition into young womanhood through mentorship, ceremony and nature connection. We are a small yet determined group in Vancouver, BC working voluntarily to make this happen because we know the importance of this work.
Within a community of women mentors, participants explore topics such as body image, puberty, relationships, empowerment, sexuality and personal fears. The girls build confidence and pride in becoming young women, gain valuable friendships and grow from individualized & community-based mentoring. Their learning culminates in a powerful coming-of-age ceremony in nature where participants start to recognize their unique gifts to bring home and contribute to their communities. Coming-of-age rites of passage were enacted by cultures around the world in pre-modern times, and Fire & Flower is our modern attempt at honouring this special time in life.
Rites of passage are community events. They are created by the community for its longterm welfare, and Fire & Flower is a reflection of many women who gathered to create its curriculum and continue to offer their wisdom and talents. In helping individuals discover pride, purpose and contentment in themselves - all in service to the world - this work is sustainability in action.
Please help this heart-based project by donating generously. Your contribution will make costs affordable for families. The money will be used for venue rentals, travel, food, and art supplies for the girls. With the success of this year, we will aim to secure grant funding for the future. Please help us make this possible for our girls.
