Welcome to Giving Room Skateboard Co. !

We are a non-profit organization based in Chicago, Atlanta, New York City and Los Angeles that is focused on giving back to the community through the collective work of emerging artists and skateboarders.

Artists are given a platform to display their work as well as support foundations and charities that they hold dear.

Our plan is simple. An artist designs a graphic for a skateboard and all the proceeds from the sale of that board go to a charity or organization that the artist holds dear. In this way we hope to use the power and creativity of the skateboarding and art communities to have a positive impact on the world around us. Creating opportunities such as these allows everyone to contribute to a great cause while supporting local craft and production.

With our first line of boards created, we used the proceeds to help out the SISP Kovalam Skate Club and Holy Stoked Collective . The SISP Kovalam Skate Club is an elementary school in Kovalam, India. Using their motto of “No School - No Skating!” children are encouraged to come to school and learn in order to be able to enjoy the skatepark that is built in the courtyard of the school. The skatepark in the school was built by the HolyStoked Collective, a group of dedicated skateboarders whose purpose is to bring skateboarding to India. We provided the school with 6 complete skateboards as well as soft goods that students will be able to share and enjoy while learning to skate in their free time. Two of our members traveled to Kovalam, India to hand deliver the skateboards as well as join the Holystoked Collective on their  mission of teaching kids the beauty of skateboarding across India.

We are very proud to announce our first artist feature, John Cowart, for Arts of Life! Arts of Life was established in January of 2000 to provide a collective space for adult artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities to expand their creative practice and strengthen their leadership.  Since then, it has grown to become an established presence within greater Chicago’s creative arts community. Today, Arts of Life serves over 60 artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities with a programming model based on leadership, professional development, and artistic fulfillment. The Arts of Life's mission is one that John and the Giving Room team hold dear, making the organization an obvious choice for our first release.

John Cowart, a long time friend and owner/operator of fingerboard company Cowply , embroiders his own sense of empathy and positivity in everything he produces. Interested in the teachings of artwork, Cowart particularly admires Arts of Life for the opportunities they give to those who are looking to create and express themselves. All proceeds from the John Cowart line of skateboards, clothing, and items sold through our shop will be donated to the Arts of Life - and the opportunities they continue to provide for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In our eyes, Giving Room is giving room for meaningful, creative endeavors to happen as often as possible. We are asking for your help in getting our organization going so that we can start to inspire creativity and give back to the community.

Please feel free to browse our webstore, featuring John's work for Arts of Life as well as some our first products for the Kovalam Skate Club.

We thank you for everything.
