A Book by Doris Wilson and Peter Cole
We, Author/Writer Doris Wilson and Professional Freelance Photographer Peter Cole ~ PPA, have collaborated to produce a book dedicated to African American Centenarians', entitled “100-~100'S, Images of Resiliency and Optimism.” The project targeted research is primarily in the mid-southern states (VA, NC, SC, and GA), however, we have traveled to other states when the need has arose . We have been drawn to do this book by a shared energy, passion, and enthusiasm for our African American Ancestors, coupled with our deep conviction in believing in honoring our ancestors simply because they deserve to be honored. They are the reason why we are where we are today!!!
The book will be rich with a photographs/short story ~ coffee table hardcover type book with approximately 230 pages of alternate content of images and narrative biographies. Additionally, a major Photography Exhibit has been guaranteed in Charlotte, NC and hopefully various venues in major cities of the states we are covering.
Each centenarian will receive a 'free' high definition professional 8x10 head shot image on a CD taken in the comfort of their own home.
Additionally our goal is to photograph and interview 100 centenarians and we are now over halfway there at 65 completed. We are now searching for only 35 more. Due to limited funds, our goal is raise money for publication, travel expenses, motel accommodations as needed, postage, image printing and framing materials.
As Doris and I reflect, we stand in awe of these Ancestors of ours. This project is one of the most joyous and rewarding experiences for us. Our Centenarians are simply beautiful, awesome, witty, very interesting and have made a great impact on our lives, their family and many, many others. All but a few are not just living but are very active in their communities, attending church, traveling, going to arobics, and many other activities. We hope this book bring as much joy to others as it has to us.
Our goal is to have the book project completed, self published and printed by January 2015, and ready for Black History Month 2015.
