Food security, resource scarcity and climate change are significant global challenges that urgently need to be addressed in the 21st century.
By contributing to our crowdfunding campaign, you can make a difference in the world!
Gaïa is a social enterprise based in Senegal, West Africa, focussed on sustainable development. We have established an organic farm that will have positive social and environmental impacts, whilst also generating profits for the local community.
Our organic farm in Kaffrine, Senegal, is producing a range of organic fruits, vegetables and honey for sale on the local market. In this way, we are creating jobs and boosting the local economy. We are also improving nutrition and promoting better resource and environmental management.
With Gaïa, we have a triple bottom line approach and we are contributing positively towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). We are also modelling small-scale responses to the significant global challenges of food security, resource scarcity and climate change. It is our hope that our organic farm model can be scaled up and adopted in other countries in the future.
Through private funding, Gaïa has purchased land, set up basic infrastructure, installed a local team, improved soil fertility, regenerated and planted trees and commenced farming operations. Whilst we have made a lot of progress, the organic farm needs further funding for the next stage to scale-up production and ensure we have the biggest possible impact for the local community.
Funds will be allocated accordingly. As a guide:
$20 can fund a pair of secateurs
$50 can fund 1 wheelbarrow
$100 can fund 80 grafted mango trees
$250 can fund the 10 day staff training on organic compliance for 1 staff member
$500 can fund 125 citrus fruit saplings
$1,500 can fund 15t of peanut shells and 10t of innovative Casuarina mulch
$8,000 can fund the irrigation drip system to help us scale-up the production of our organic produce
$20,000 can fund the industrial kitchen space to prepare and process our organic produce
Thanks very much for your support!
