Goodbye, Josephine

Our beloved mother, Josephine Brogna, passed away on Monday evening, February 11th. Shortly after being diagnosed three years ago with breast cancer, she started getting all of her paperwork together for that “just in case” moment.
When she tracked down the representative that sold my parents their insurance policy, she was shocked to find out that her life insurance company had filed bankruptcy, and all the money that they poured into this policy for 20 years was gone. We told my parents not to worry and that if anything happened, we would take care of it.
We had never lost a parent before, so we weren’t quite ready for the rude awakening ahead of us. My mom was only 66. There was no plot of land. There wasn’t a space at the Mausoleum waiting for her. We’ve been in a fog and completely in shock as to how fast everything has happened. Our guess was worse case scenario, maybe 3-6 more months of fighting. We also believed the strongest woman we ever knew would beat this.
The last 2 days we have been running around and trying our best to honor our mother’s request, while keeping the costs of saying good-bye to as little as possible.
Our phones and social media accounts have been blowing up and people are asking, “What can I do to help?”
We struggled with whether or not to ask for help.
We decided we’d love your help. Costs are looking at roughly $25,000+ for Mausoleum burial (not far from her brother Carmine), and Memorial Service. Oh, and everybody wants to be paid in full - up front.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking people to support us in honoring our mother by giving to her Go Fund Me Page. Please feel no pressure. Believe us, this is a difficult ask. We wish this was all taken care of, and we especially wish both of our parent’s policies were valid. Instead of focusing on the things we can’t control - we will press forward with what we can control.
All funds collected will go directly towards the burial, Memorial Service and Celebration Get together of her life.
