Graffiti Camp for Girls: DAYTON
Donation protected
What if a classically trained artist took to the streets of The Bay Area, CA, covering old buildings and blank walls with her special brand of Aerosol Art, creating murals of lasting color, community spirit, and encouraging messages? THEN, what if she turned her talents into a CAMP for GIRLS ages 12-17? THEN, what if Dayton, OH hosted her and turned her Graffiti Gang loose on not one but BOTH blank slate, gray cinderblock walls in the NEW restrooms at the Yellow Cab Tavern to create original art? Well, then it looks like we are bringing NINA WRIGHT (aka #GirlMobb, artist, muralist, printmaker, and teacher with a BFA from the Academy of Art University San Francisco) to town this December 26-28, 2017, and are hosting:GRAFFITI CAMP FOR GIRLS: DAYTON EDITION!! Nina's class begins with a drawing/painting lesson for the participants, and a mural is designed with the input of the venue, keeping location/history in mind. We would like to completely fund 40-50 cans of water-based, artist-quality spray paint, transportation for Nina Wright, class materials and lunch/snacks for local participants, ages 12-17, and some fixins for an Unveiling Party at the Yellow Cab Tavern. We are seeking all levels of support, and the more we can fund, the more girls we can enroll (up to 10) who would otherwise not have this unique opportunity. This original art will live in perpetuity, open to the public, in the 2 restrooms at Yellow Cab Tavern. If you support young, female artists, public art, youth, Dayton, and the refurbishing of old spaces in YOUR community, won't you give $5-$500? EVERY dollar counts towards respirators, transportation for Ms. Wright, lunches and snacks for the group, tarps and materials, 40-50 cans of paint, drawing supplies, water and beverages, a little nosh for the Unveiling, and some printing of flyers . (Yellow Cab Tavern has generously offered an outside wall of their building for Graffiti Camp 2.0 when the weather turns, and Nina Wright has agreed to return...any funds collected over the amount will be banked towards the NEXT session.)Participants will be nominated by local middle/high schools, must be Dayton residents, team players, and into ART. THANK YOU for your consideration and support! (We are also seeking Dayton-based donations of snacks, water, sandwiches, treats, t-shirts, tarps, and other items to round out this experience for the participants. We are honored that the owners of Yellow Cab Tavern, art supporters and hosts of such diverse activities as a regular Poetry Slam, Tai Chi, the Day of the Dead Parade, and many classes, concerts and activities, have agreed to host the camp! Please contact Christine Brunner through this GoFundMe link if you'd like to contribute!) Have a venue in need of a mural? We are looking for future spaces!
