Granny's Medical Cost

Granny UPDATES 09/11/17

The last month has been so tremulous for Granny's health - towards the end of her hyperthyroid medication Granny lost her appetite, even more weight and started vomiting. We rushed her to the cat hospital in a critical condition where she was diagnosed with chronic renal disease, IBD, cholecystitis, and cholangiohepatitis. Currently, on a daily basis she is taking 4 medications (antibiotics, steroid, thyroid, and for nausea) and she is receiving directly into the blood fluids (IV), as well as vitamin B12 injections once a week. The steroid and thyroid medications, she is required to take till the end of her life. Last week we re-run blood tests and the doctor came back to us with overall hopeful news about Granny's health. She is looking much better and has gained weight, also her urinary infection is cured. However, there is one more medication we need to add that will probably help further with her liver. We will continue this regiment for the next couple of weeks and then re-run some more tests.

Granny UPDATES 07/07/17:
We just got the first results. Granny has urinary tract infection which we're going to treat with antibiotics. She's also hyperthyroid, a common endocrine problem in senior cats and we're going to treat it with medications. Blood tests also showed she has an upset liver, but this may be a consequence of the above problems.





This wonderful senior cat has spent her whole life in a basement. Her previous owners left her behind nearly 20 years ago when they moved out of the building in which I currently live. The super and the tenants of the building have since then been feeding and taking care of her. Granny had no name, but even worse she had barely had any contact with humans and no access to daylight for almost 20 years.
This week I was able to take her out of the basement and take her to the vet. She is very skinny and missing most of her teeth, but that doesn't stop her from asking to be pet all the time.



Granny at the moment is at a lovely foster home getting all the love and care that she needs.
