GAS Founder Marilyn Needs Help!

For over three decades founder of Greyhound Adoption Service (GAS) Marilyn Wolkovits has been helping retired racing greyhounds find their forever homes. GAS was one of the first adoption agencies devoted exclusively to greyhounds. She has been responsible for matching thousands of greyhounds with their forever families. And thousands of people have met their heart dogs thanks to Marilyn’s unwavering commitment to these wonderful canines.
Marilyn has devoted her life to the greyhounds and now she needs help with her own forever home. This winter Marilyn sustained an injury to her hip that has changed her life forever. She is no longer able to walk on her own, and must use a wheelchair or walker to to move. This is a permanent condition. She has been in rehabilitation for over two months undergoing both physical and occupational therapies. Before she can go back to her home, the entire first floor needs to be completely retrofitted for wheelchair accessibility and safety. This includes everything from widening doorways to accommodate a wheelchair, leveling floor surfaces, installing special bathroom fixtures, adapting kitchen cabinets and appliances to wheelchair height to building an exterior wheelchair ramp. It is a major make-over and Marilyn does not have the funds to do the required renovations. The total cost including materials , fixtures and labor is $46,000. This is essentially the price of Marilyn’s ability to live again in her own home.
Throughout the history of GAS, adopters, supporters and friends have given generously to keep the kennel up and running. Now the kennel is closed and it is Marilyn who needs the support. If you have adopted a greyhound, you know just how amazing Marilyn is and what an outstanding job she has done caring for the dogs, giving them unconditional love and matching them with their forever families.
Marilyn is the kind of person who puts others first. It would be extremely difficult for her to ask for help for herself. It is on her behalf that we, her family and friends, ask you to donate to Marilyn’s Go Fund Me account. All of the money goes to retrofitting her house. Marilyn will complete her therapies soon and wants badly to go back home. The contractor is ready to go. Now all we have to do is provide the money to do it.
