A CALL FOR URGENT HELP! The Flood Victims in Freetown, Sierra Leone

On September 16, 2015, the Western Area in Freetown, Sierra Leone experienced deadly flooding.  Although the government of Sierra Leone is exercising best efforts to address this tragic act of nature, The 50/50 Group, Save Sierra Leone Foundation, and The HOME Initiative (the “Collective Organizations”) are requesting assistance from our members, family, friends, and the diaspora to send immediate relief to the displaced communities. We are requesting the sum of USD 5,000 to purchase food and personal items for the victims.

According to an official press release from the State House of the Republic of Sierra Leone (The State House) on Wednesday September 16, 2015, the continuous heavy rain resulted in “severe flooding in parts of the Western area including Kroo Bay, Krootown Road, Brook Street, Samba Gutter, Falcon Bridge, Gray Bush, Spur Loop, Spur Road, Lumley, Malama, Wilkinson Road, Dokorty, Cottage Hospital, Culvert, Peacock Farm, Moyiba, Moa Wharf/Eastern Police/Magazine Cut Axis, Old Wharf and Bai Bureh Road.”

Most of these locations are home for disadvantaged communities and the flooding has resulted in approximately 250 displaced families totaling over 600 homeless, and sizable injuries and deaths. The State House is expecting more flooding in the coming days. As such, YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED.

The day after, the collective organizations donated breakfast (Bread, Butter, Water) for approximately 200 displaced people at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown. In addition, we have mobilized a food/clothing donation drives at local supermarkets in Freetown (Spurbury, Monoprix, Adnan, Freetown Supermaket, and St. Mary).
