Gulf Hotel Fire Victims Memorial
Donation protected
75 years ago, a fire ripped through the Gulf Hotel in Houston, Texas. 55 men died that night. The City of Houston came together in the aftermath of this tragedy to take care of the victims. 21 bodies were never identified and a further 15 had families who could not afford a private burial. The American Red Cross paid for caskets, flowers, and a common burial plot at Forrest Park Cemetery. There was never a marker placed at the grave.
"They were our brothers and brothers one to another" the Houston Post said in 1943. Please consider helping me raise the necessary funds to place a grave marker to let the victims know they have not been forgotten. Those who live in the Houston area have big hearts. We've seen that time and time again. Let's make sure these men are not forgotten.
