Peace Pole: College of Charleston

We are the 2016 Sociology of Peace class at the College of Charleston. We are working as a class to fundraise and plant a peace pole in our city of Charleston, SC. A peace pole is a monument with the inscription of "May Peace Prevail on Earth". It is written in the language of where it is planted as well as the other languages spoken in that area. This pole is planted in the hopes of making the surrounding area a place dedicated to peace. Today, there have been over 100,000 peace poles planted all over the world in over 180 countries. There have been 27 peace poles planted in Charleston alone.  We hope that this peace pole will raise awareness to those who see it. We are trying to raise to $300 to obtain a peace pole and to cordinate a ceremony to plant the pole where we will gather together as community members and students.
