In Memory

I moved to New York to prove to myself that I could be successful and self-sufficient. I ran around the city trying to be "ready for opportunity" while finding ways to make ends meet. Surrounded by a lonely sea of faces in concrete, I felt a strong sense of pressure and a longing to go back to nature- I wanted to bring the outdoors, inside. It was then that I began planning for "In Memory."
In wanting to be in nature, I wanted to leave the interactions, responsibilities, and constant distractions in daily life. I started making flower-clouds as a way to cope. I realized I was avoiding the inner thoughts that haunted me and made me restless. It was when I made my first flower-clouds, that I allowed myself the space to process my anxieties. "In Memory" no longer was a project to bring the outdoors, inside, but rather was a way to bring my inner thoughts out into the world.
"In Memory" is a space for introspection and contemplation.
While I would like to share this space with you, I need your help to complete it. The room is to be filled with 60+ individually-made pieces as well as other structural elements. In donating, you will be helping with the cost of materials, rent for the space, set-up, tear-down and all other costs to put up the exhibit.
"In Memory" will open to the public on Thursday, July 27th in Ridgewood. Please consider being a part of this project and donating.
UPDATE: Show will be up July 27-30 at Rockwall Studios in Ridgewood, off the Halsey L. Times of show will be announced soon. Follow my instagram @shum1_ for updates.
