Half the Congress Should Be Women

Donation protected
I believe that male-dominated politics is not serving our country, or our planet, and I know I am not alone in this belief!

We need to focus our energy on achieving gender equality in the Congress, as well as in State houses from coast to coast.

Women make up over half the population, yet we remain stuck at 20% of the Congress, with many states having zero women in their delegation. Pennsylvania sends 20 people to Congress, all men.

My plan is to travel to DC as a citizen lobbyist in order to elevate this issue.

I knew we had a serious problem when 42% of women actually voted for our current president. That demonstrated to me that some women have internalized their oppression to the point that they accept their status as second-class citizens. We cannot wait for these women to rise up, but we must assist them by boldly demanding gender parity. Our interests are not being represented adequately.

True leadership will be needed, and I hope to inspire Congresswomen to speak out on the subject. Women in the Congress know just how under-represented we are; they live it each and every day. But like polite women everywhere, they do not speak out about the subject for fear of sounding “bitchy.”

My plan is to ask Congresswomen to show their support for true political equality for women ~ a 50-50 division of power between men and women ~ by wearing sashes emblazoned with HALF the CONGRESS SHOULD BE WOMEN. The sashes will enable them to express the view in a wonderfully quiet, yet visually powerful, way.

The sashes are an homage to the original suffragettes, whose sashes said WOMEN’S VOTES.

I am asking for funding because I plan to rent living space on Capitol Hill so that I can maximize my time meeting with legislators. Rents in that area are high, but I will do my best to find something affordable.

I also need help paying for the sashes. I plan to give one to any Congressperson who promises to wear it on the House or Senate floor.

I fly to Washington on January 14, 2018, and will need to have enough funds to rent a decent room or possibly studio apartment right away. I am currently working on sash prototypes, trying to strike a balance between good quality/nice-looking and good deal/nice price.

Ideally I will need quite a lot of them!

Whatever help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, donations to my Go Fund Me campaign are not tax-deductible.
