"The Naija Preemie Project"
Donation protected
By Alexandra Fatokun
A regular person seeking to make an impact with the love of God in my own little way. Using crochet to raise funds for premature babies health care provision in Nigeria.
I am a self-taught crocheter, full time mom, full time employee, entrepreneur, blogger, website designer, motivational speaker, married since “forever”, but above all a lover of God. Always super excited about opportunities to give back.
“Blessed to be a Blessing”
Some of my past projects/initiatives include
1. Preemie hat challenge through which over 140 crochet preemie hats were made and donated to NICUs across Canada and USA.
2. Free hats/toques for the homeless community in downtown Calgary.
3. Donation of crochet hats and calming octopus ‘stuffies’ to NICUs and sick kids
This Project:
For the love of crochet and giving!.
Working alongside organizations in Nigeria and Canada between March 1, 2017 and December 25, 2017; we will run “the Naija Preemie Project” with the plan of raising $25,000 for “the Naija Preemie” with a focus on maternal and neonatal health care aid in Africa generally and Nigeria specifically.
The Motivation/Need:
" LACK OF INCUBATORS: Tragedy of Nigeria’s premature babies"
Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/…/lack-incubators-tragedy-niger…/
"240,000 Premature Nigerian children Died Last Year"
Read more at: http://independentnig.com/240000-premature-nigerian-childr…/
The Plan :
Partner with health care professionals to procure neonatal equipment for use by preemies who will otherwise not have access to such through Nigerian hospitals. Additionally, provide support by facilitating training and education of health care providers in the use of these equipment through workshops etc.
Helping with hospital bills, distribution of basic childcare needs eg diapers, clothing to parents and parents-to-be with financial challenges.
The Process:
Our goal is $25,000 minimum by Christmas day
500 people giving $50 = $25,000
1000 people giving $25 = $25,000
or 2500 people giving $10 = $25,000
Also for each crochet item made for donation to NICUs and Hospices here we hope to raise at least $10. This way we are able to offer continual support for Neonatal health care in our immediate surroundings of North America, while reaching out to other parts of the world.
70% of proceeds of sales for the next 12 months from https://omogesandi.wixsite.com/handcraftdluv
will be donated to the “the Naija Preemie Project”
We are working in partnership with Charis Family International Church Nigeria
http://charisfamily.com/
We are looking to partner with organizations in Canada to achieve our goal
“Why sit around and wait for a miracle to come, when you can be one?” (Nathalie Grant)
Be inspired!
Come along with us on this journey
Warm Regards,
Abisoye Alexandra
