Handicapped Children need help.

Daniel and Travis are two brothers who have faced many obstacles since birth. Their father passed away in a tragic car accident when they were only nine and seven years old respectively. Their mother abandoned them due to her drug abuse and ongoing trouble with the law. Only six months after the death of their father, they also lost their uncle (a secondary father figure that meant so much to them). The children were left emotionally scarred. The brothers have been moved from place to place, home to home, with no constant residence or stable family life. Often times Daniel, a child himself, was left as sole caregiver to his younger brother. The children were frequently left with various family members and friends for days (and even weeks at a time) with no access to appropriate feeding supplies, clothing, and no contact with their mother. The brothers have only ever recieved inadequate medical care for their disabilities. The State of Michigan has now taken custody of the children and they were placed in the care of their grandparents.

Daniel is currently 13 years old. He was born with multiple physical deformities. Daniel was born with no feet and no right hand. However, he does NOT let these disabilities hold him back. He lives his life the way he was meant to, the life of a normal child. He participates in Cross Country, Basketball, and Wrestling. He was also awarded "Student of the Month."

Travis is currently 11 years old. Travis was born with Cerebral Palsy and has also been diagnosed with Epilepsy, Spastic Quadriparesis, and Hydrocephalus. He is blind, non-verbal, needs a shunt to redirect fluid out of his brain, and needs to be fed with a gastrostomy tube. He is wheelchair bound. He can not walk, talk, or feed himself, and he has to wear diapers. He requires full time, around the clock care. Despite his medical complications, he is a happy and joyful child, full of laughter, who brings a smile to everybody he crosses paths with.

Daniel and Travis' grandparents have made enormus sacrifices to care for them and to ensure that the children recieve the care that they need. Daniel has been equipped with prosthetics for his feet. Travis requires constant visits to Neurosurgeons, Gastroenterologists, and Physical Therapists. However, their grandparents constantly struggle with the lack of access to proper equipment and transportation. They have to constantly assemble and dissasemble Travis' wheelchair, and they struggle with constantly having to lift and move Travis from his bed, the bathtub, his wheelchair, and the car. Most of their current equipment is not adequate and does not meet Travis' needs. The Department of Human Services has not provided any assistance.

All proceeds raised through this campaign will be held in a trust and a will to be used for the direct benefits and needs which are not covered by Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Medicaid. This would include making the home wheelchair accessible, purchsing a wheelchair accessible van, purchasing medical equipment not covered by insurance, and any other items/supplies that would contribute to the quality of life of these extraordinary children.
