Meet Charlie. When he was 1 year old, he was in a house fire and the back of his head, back and feet were badly burned. He lost his legs above the knees and requires reconstructive surgeries while he grows. Charlie is like most young burn survivors, who feel isolated during their recovery because they are unable to help themselves. Fortunately, the fireman who rescued Charlie introduced him to the Así Soy Yo Organización (“Just as I Am Organization”), founded by retired firemen. We come along side these children and their families during the recovery process. We are putting together a weekend Así Soy Yo Camp camp so these trauma survivors can receive educational programs, physical, psychological and emotional counseling. In addition to therapy, we plan to have many fun activities, such as

●   fire apparatus parade
●   fishing
●   fun fair
●   gems and journals
●   high ropes obstacle course
●   horseback riding
●   music and dance
●   rock climbing
●   sports
●   indoor and outdoor swimming
●   talent show
●   woodworking

We have a group of volunteers including doctors, nurses, social workers, teachers, physical and occupational therapists, fire service personnel, and other professionals. The qualified staff will participate in various professional development and orientation sessions designed to prepare the children to deal with the specific needs of burn survivors and to help them develop strength to continue living their lives to the fullest.

On the weekend of October 12-14, 2017 we will host our first Así Soy Yo Camp with Fundación Rino-Q at Camp Santa Ursula in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and bring burn survivors including Charlie to our group of volunteers.  Subsequent Así Soy Yo Burn Camps will be hosted by El Faro Ministries in Acapulco, Mexico.
