Hanks Family Surrogacy Journey

“Pray, then let it go. Don’t try to manipulate or force the outcome. Just trust God to open the right doors at the right time.” – Melody Carlson, The Christmas Angel Project
We’ve always believed in God’s timing, and we’re firm believers that our lives are exactly where they’re meant to be – even if we can’t see it in the moment.
We have been together for fifteen years and married for twelve. Neither of us ever thought we would have any trouble getting pregnant. Infertility was something that in our minds, other people dealt with, not us. We suffered our first miscarriage within the first year of marriage and our most recent just a couple of months ago. With each attempt, the hope became stronger. Putting on a brave face when you’re struggling, becomes harder.
We made the decision after three years to grow our family through adoption. Our adoption journey to our first son, Jaden, was not a straight line. We started the process in an International adoption program, and when the country shut down adoptions as we were halfway through the process, we made the decision to shift to a foster-to-adopt program. The overall process took about a year, and Jaden came into our family on his 6th birthday. We became parents for the first time OF A SIX YEAR OLD BOY! It was an adjustment and one of the biggest growing experiences of our lives. He had a rough start at life and dealt with things that no one, let alone a child, should ever have to face.
After a few years, a family friend's daughter reached out when she found out she was pregnant and didn't feel that she and her boyfriend were ready to parent. We immediately said "yes!" and she moved across the country and into our home when she was only a few weeks pregnant. She lived with us during the entire pregnancy and we were able to experience every doctor's appointment, talk to him, sing to him, and feel him kick. JD was in the OR when he was born via c-section.
Our children's journeys and our path to them, couldn't be any more different. Yet, without a doubt, both meant to be our children.
God’s timing for everything in our life has always happened with clear purpose. That's why, when we met Krystal, our surrogate, it just felt like the most amazing gift.
We feel very strongly that this is the open door for us to have a successful pregnancy. Donations will help with lawyer fees, overall care for the surrogate, hospital bills for labor, and the cost of health and life insurance.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading this and considering our family with your prayers and donations.
