Hannah and Zoë Doniach College Fund

Donation protected
Benjamin Doniach, pictured above with his family, has two daughters attending Cabrillo College, Hannah and Zoë. The sudden loss of their father in a bike accident has put Hannah and Zoë into a deep place of mourning. They don’t want people’s sympathy or reminders that their dad is gone. They want people to make them laugh. They are strong women who could use some financial help in dealing with college expenses, as there is no college fund for them, and their mother’s prolonged health problems have impacted the family’s finances significantly. The girls have been paying their own way at Cabrillo, with their mother Tutti assisting them with materials fees.

Both girls have completed their general education requirements and hope to transfer to the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), in 2019. They are motivated and ambitious students. Zoë is majoring in Anthropology and Art, while Hannah is majoring in Environmental Studies and Art. Both girls have maxed out their Ceramics classes, and have a home studio with a used wheel, where they spend a lot of time creating usable art. This upcoming year both girls will add to their long list of art classes at Cabrillo, where it is far less expensive to attend than UCSC. Hannah hopes to get as many of her major requirements completed at Cabrillo as possible, as a science major requires far more classes than a social science major.

So far, the girls have lived at home, and will likely continue to do so, to save on college costs. Immediate things they need are:

1. Money for Art Supplies - $3,000

The girls have been taking several classes in Photography, including Large Format Photography, which they would like to continue with. They also hope to take Advanced Screen Printing this upcoming year, and Painting classes. These classes all require substantial materials fees. When they continue on at UCSC, there will be additional art supply costs.

2. Money for Laptops - $3,000

Hannah and Zoë have managed to get by on used and unreliable computers for most of their college careers. Currently they are sharing an old MacBook Pro that has a non-functional mouse pad, and unpredictable future, as it was dropped by their mom when she used it for work and had to have a new operating system installed, but with no guarantee it would last for any length of time. It would be best if each girl had her own computer, preferably two new MacBook Pros ($1,500 each).

In the near future, the girls will need:

3. Two Year’s Tuition Each at UCSC - $60,000

Any amount that could be donated towards the high cost of tuition would be greatly appreciated, even $5. Both their mother Tutti, and their sister Rori, attended UCSC. When Tutti was there it was $1,500 per year. When Rori was there it was $5,000 a year. Now, a commuting student can expect to pay $15,000 per year, which does not include food or personal expenses.
