More about Heal The Hood Project
Heal The Hood Project 's self-sustainability and expansion in 2020 / 2021 is to share the lessons learnt from our 21 years of existence. Our practical experience of our founder Emile YX? over the last 36 years and his work with Heal The Hood Practical Hip Hop School Mixed Mense will be share via a documentary, screening in various schools and communities locally and internationally.
We are raising these funds to expand our work nationally, regionally (SADC), continentally and internationally. We are currently in 11 schools and 4 community centres. Our plan is to double and then triple the number of facilitators and thus also the number of youth reached daily. We reach more than 1000 youth per week. We teach them a sense of self-worth and encourage them to create positive alternatives and become their own voice in the world. Here is a video of our impact on some learners at a school we work at.
Our plan is to expand Heal The Hood as an Artist Activist Network throughout Southern Africa from the 21st March 2020 till 17th June 2020. We have toured nationally before and reached 60 schools in a month, exposing us to 90 000 young people directly. This will set the foundation to create a self-sustaining means to expand further. We plan to reach 168 000 & 250 000 people directly during 2020 and over million indirectly through social media and newsletters.
One of our pledges was to take this documentary Afrocation Book & DVD to Universities in the SADC region, as well as in Europe and the USA in 2020/2021.
Young people have been able to earn an income and make a living from advertisements, performances and participation in Hollywood movies like "Honey 3" and South African movies like "Pop, Lock & Roll" because of Heal The Hood sharing Hip Hop & Arts Culture. many young dancers have been able to travel to international events like the Battle of the Year because of our fund-raisers.
We will repeat our themes of "KNOW YOURSELF, TO LOVE YOURSELF, SELF-LOVE IS THE ANSWER & CHANGE BEGINS INSIDE OF ME" as central to our 2020 tour.
Heal the Hood Project was created by Emile YX? in 1998 and has a track record of arts activism that includes introducing thousands of South Africans & Swedes to Hip Hop Culture and Self-worth, raising money for more than 200 young artists to travel internationally, international exchanges with artists from Sweden, USA, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Korea, Holland, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Nigeria, creating 7 compilation CDs, 3 R.A.P.S.S. (Rhymes, Articles, Poetry, Short Stories, Sketches) Book , 3 plays , hosting events link African Battle Cry , African Hip Hop Indaba , Battle Of The Year , etc, We are in 10 schools each week, creating music videos with learners at schools , recorded learners at SAE professional studios, Collaboration song about 20 Years of Democracy/ Demockery in South Africa Here is some footage from a promotional video about Heal The Hood Project.
