Launching Hello Life

Hello Life Eating Disorder Recovery Services was founded by Shira Moskowitz.Shira started her own journey to recovery from her eating disorder in January of 2013. She knew the only way she could find true self-love and acceptance was through giving up her scale.
On Jan.21, 2013, that’s exactly what she did.
In order to keep herself accountable she made a promise to the world and to herself that she would blog every day for a year about her journey to recovery without her scale.
When she gave up her scale to her therapist at the time, the only words that came to her mind were, “hello life.”
Her blog, Hello Life: A Year Without A Scale, (www.hellolifeblog.com) picked up international presence and it became more than just a blog: it became a community of people around the world who were all fighting for the same thing.
It’s now been more than two years and Shira still does not know what she weighs.
Through her blog Shira was able to start an online support group for fighters around the world, do individual mentorship and help others. She knew that one day she wanted to make Hello Life her forever mission and goal.
In April of 2015, Hello Life received its official Washington state nonprofit status. In Aug of 2016 it revived its tax exempt 501c3 status from the IRS.
All of our board members and founder are working with Hello Life on a volunteer basis; no one is paid.
Hello Life Eating Disorder Recovery Services is based in Longview, Washington. It is our mission and goal to help all people wanting and striving or considering to recover from an eating disorder, help those struggling with body image and help those learn to love themselves. We serve the greater Southwest Washington area and run online support groups worldwide.
We believe that recovery is not about the food or the weight, but about self-love, self-compassion and self-acceptance. No one person’s journey is ever the same, and we believe in meeting each person exactly where they are at.
We want to be complelty transparent with our fundraising and let everyone know exactly what we will be using your hard earned money for.
We understand the value of a hard earned dollar and understand that not everyone can donate financially. Even sharing our page on social media is truly a gift to us.
Here's our financial break down:
$240 for a one year subscription for a p.o. box.
$800 for our 501 c3 filing fee.
$200 to order more of our Hello Life Bracelets. There are currently more than 700 people wearing our Hello Life bracelets around the world. The braclets serve as a reminder to people that they are not alone in their fight to recovery.
$200 for flyers for our support groups. At 64 cents per flyer, this would let us make 300 flyers.
$250 to print brochures.
$500 for extra money to provide people with funding to buy new clothes, professional treatment not covered by local agencies or insurance and flowers and uplifting gifts to those fighting for recovery who could use some inspiration.
$200 for materials for outreach events
$2,000 if we need to have a professional lawyer or CPA look over our 501c3 paperwork, consult with us and help with taxes
We thank everyone who has supported our mission and are so grateful for your love and support.
