Help a Gay Gal Graduate

Hello, my name is C* and I am currently a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, one semester short of graduation. Despite the somewhat comical alliteration in the title of this page, I am reaching out to you today out of unfortunate need.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Chapel Hill, overcome with immense support from this University and I am excited to soon become one of her alumni so that I, too, can give back and support its future students. Chapel Hill has allowed me to not only embrace the study of social and human rights, but also has enabled me to embrace my identity as a lesbian, an identity that took years to fully understand and accept. It was this support and love from my University that enabled me to openly come forward with my identity to my family; however, this has been met with many unplanned and unexpected consequences, one of which is the fact that my family will not be supporting my spring tuition.

I have already begun making financial sacrifices: I have decided to underload my spring semester, which has lowered my tuition bill by a few thousand dollars, I have begun a variety of job interviews so that I will be working between 3-5 days in any given week, and I have removed myself as an active member of my sorority. Unfortunately, these sacrifices do not remedy the sheer cost of education and living expenses I will be expected to pay. It is therefore out of necessity that I ask of you the last thing I would ever ask out of anyone: financial support.  I need this support so that I can graduate this spring and fulfill my aspirations of fighting for the social and human rights of all people, regardless of race, class, gender, sexuality, religion, ability, and age.

This money will be utilized to cover the financial dues that I cannot currently cover and I will forever be thankful and gracious for any and all support that I am able to raise. I am already incredibly thankful to have friends and a vast support system who love me for who I am, but I am beyond fortunate to all who reach my page and support me with my dream to graduate from UNC.

Thank you in advance for your support, regardless of whether that is financial support, emotional support, or prayers - I'm in rather desperate need of all of the above right now! I wish you all a wonderful and blessed holiday season. I hope it is filled with love, laughter, and joy, wherever you find it.

Graciously,
C*

*In order to protect my confidentiality and emotional safety (and that of my family), I will not use my full name. However, I am completely open to full correspondence with individuals. I apologize for being unable to be more transparent about my identity.
