Help a Muslim Refugee Family in Need

Asalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

My name is Sahra and I'm a final-year medical student in Egypt. I am fundraising for a Muslim refugee family who is in need of urgent help.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

والله في عون العبد ما كان العبد في عون أخيه

“Allah helps His slave as long as he helps his brother.”

[Muslim]

I have been regularly visiting this family whose financial situation has been tough. Today, I was saddened to see how unwell the elderly lady has been since my last visit. Her health deteriorated quite a lot. She has diabetes and hypertension and is now bed-bound due to untreated osteoarthritis in her knees.

Overall, she is poorly and her morale is very low, understandably for someone who can not move around. She is simply not getting the care she needs, as they can not afford it.

We have been experiencing unbearable heatwaves in Egypt these past few days, yet the lady has not been drinking enough water as she does not want to move and go to the bathroom. She was feverish and dehydrated when I saw her today.

I offered her a glass of water, which she gulped down very quickly, admitting that she was very thirsty. This is obviously dangerous for someone her age and with these chronic conditions.

The family has never asked me for money, but I know they struggle with their monthly expenses and medical bills – and the elderly lady needs urgent medical care. I told the daughter that I will find the money for her mother’s treatment inshaAllah.

I also want to raise more money for them as a family.

I believe that they are those people that Allah SWT mentions in the Quran:

يَحۡسَبُهُمُ ٱلۡجَاهِلُ أَغۡنِيَآءَ مِنَ ٱلتَّعَفُّفِ تَعۡرِفُهُم بِسِيمَٰهُمۡ

An ignorant [person] would think them self-sufficient because of their restraint, but you will know them by their [characteristic] sign.

It’s on us to seek these people out and help them to the best of our ability inshAllah.
