Help Brian Quit His Night Job
Donation protected
I've delivered newspapers for the Corpus Christi Caller Times at night for 10 years straight now. In those 10 years the only nights I got off were extreme weather-related. 4 nights in 10 years, 3 of which were due to Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
I started in 2009 and have developed various health problems which are directly related to being on a night schedule for the past decade. I attempted to leave this job last December, at the time my medical problems began to escalate.
The health issues included high blood pressure and several episodes in which I had trouble breathing. That resulted in 3 very expensive visits to the emergency room of a local hospital. While I've been on a diet regimen for the past 6 months and have lost over 30 pounds, I really need to get off this night time schedule.
Here is the problem:
The Caller Times couldn't find anybody to replace me even after I gave them 30 days notice in early December. I was gone all of 3 days before they begged me to come back by raising my pay from around $400/week to $500/week.
Since I now had almost $15,000 worth of medical bills to pay off due to the emergency room visits during my breathing episodes, I couldn't say no.
While I now have a day job writing columns for the Epoch Times newspaper, I don't make enough to walk away from the newspaper delivery job and support myself solely on the column money.
So I have decided to try the solution of doing a fund raising drive once a year to see if I can raise the equivalent of 12 months worth of newspaper delivery.
I'll be very clear about this: this money is going directly to me. I'm not giving it to anybody else, and I'm not claiming to raise it on behalf of a political organization. It's specifically to pay my own bills for the next twelve months.
If this campaign is successful, not only will I be able to sleep at night, it will free up about 6 more hours of my time that I currently spend every single night bagging and delivering newspapers. That will mean more time to write columns and research political topics in the coming year.
I fully intend to write a book on the SpyGate scandal. Moving to a daytime schedule & not having to be up for at least 6 hours every night will definitely make completing that project far easier.
Thanks for reading, and God bless!
