Brie Strong: Heart Warrior and 22qtie

This can happen to anyone.....

From Sean and Kait:
When we found out we were pregnant again we were thrilled! We were so excited for Logan to have a sibling. When I found out we were having a GIRL, I burst into tears of happiness. I always dreamed of having a daughter. I had visions of us going shopping, putting bows in her hair, taking her to ballet... all those girly things. But unfortunately things don't always go as planned.
April 7th was the worst day of our lives. We went to a fetal cardiologist and were given heartbreaking news about our little princess. The Dr. drew a picture of a normal heart and then drew a picture of Brie's heart and we were in shock. I thought "this can't be right! Something is missing!". It looked completely different because Brie is missing a vessel as well as a hole in her heart. They call this Truncus Arteriosus, a serious and very rare heart defect that will require open heart surgery soon after birth. It will be something she deals with her entire life.
Without hesitation Sean and I decided we would do everything in our power to give Brie a chance at a healthy and happy life... one that is as normal as possible. We've begun our research and will most likely deliver and have Brie's surgery at one the best hospitals for pediatric cardiology, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). We found an excellent surgeon and have started to get the ball rolling on making all this happen. ( Sean, Kait and Logan moved back to Maryland in May to have family close by and to be able to have Brie in the hands of the best doctors at CHOP.)
Sean and I realize our lives will forever be changed. This will not be easy. We will always be worried about Brie, we will have quite a few surgeries a head of us but we know together we will make it through. We know God would never give us something we couldn't handle. We ask that everyone please pray for us and Brie (or send good vibes... whatever works for you!)! Thank you family and friends for all your support. We love you all and couldn't do this without you.

Brie Michelle Harrison was born on July 27, 2017 to her loving, amazing parents, Sean and Kaitlin at CHOP. She had open heart surgery on July 31 (4 days old). She has had multiple complications and needed additional procedures including her chest being opened to allow her heart to recover from the surgery in addition to 2 pulmonary artery stents placed on August 2.

On Tuesday, August 8, her parents found out she also carries the diagnosis of DiGeorge syndrome which will add other medical issues in addition to her heart issues. More surgeries are in her future. At the present, she remains in the cardiac intensive care unit at CHOP.
We have been amazed at the outpouring of love, prayers and general support of family, friends, and strangers asking what they can do.
There are ongoing uncovered medical expenses, medication costs, travel expenses, lodging, future surgeries, time off work, etc. Donations will help relieve a small burden of what they will face.
Your support in any amount will be greatly appreciated by Sean, Kait, Logan (2 ½ yr. old brother) and Brie. Thanks for all your support, continued prayers, positive energy and thoughts. All funds will benefit Brie and her parents in her continued fight.
