Help cat shelter workers who lost their jobs
Donation protected
The no kill shelter (cats and dogs) where I volunteer has been battling a Calicivirus outbreak since last October. The decision was finally made to euthanize nearly 120 cats (all of the cats in the cattery except the handful up front in a different building). The cats were euthanized today which breaks my heart.
The 4 employees who worked with the cats no longer have jobs and with the federal government shutdown will not be able to get food stamps. They were paid minimum wage or close to that, unemployment compensation in MS, even when someone gets the maximum, is hundreds of dollars below the poverty line for a single person and they are unlikely to get the maximum. I am raising money for them to help them be able to eat and fed their own pets. While what is raised here will not solve their financial issues, it should be helpful.

Please note this is not a fundraiser being sponsored by or sanctioned by the shelter. I am doing because I am a volunteer there and I'd like to help these 4 folks through this very sad turn of events. The shelter will not be rehiring any of them any time soon because the shelter is hoping to build a new cattery (the existing one is in very poor condition) before accepting more cats.
UPDATE 3/9: Only two left needing help. One has some rather serious medical problems so is unlikely to find a job this month (March). She has a number of cats and is feeding a stable, fixed feral colony. Will update more with photos in a couple of days when I have more time
