Help Cloquet, MN build a skatepark
Since the spring of 2010, skateboarders from Cloquet, MN have been pushing to get a public Skatepark built through City Council. They have become known as the Carlton County Skatepark Association.
In the past 7 years a lot has been done to show the city that area skaters deserve a park of their own. Countless fundraisers including sphagetti feeds, pancake feeds, bake sales, raffles, car washes, skateboard demos and auctions have been organized. On top of that, the group has volunteered in the community and has been continually involved in local government. These efforts have been chronicled in more than a dozen Cloquet Pine Journal articles as well as the Duluth News Tribune.

In recent years, a group of young skateboarders has been spear-heading the effort. Through their consistent hard work and dedication, the City of Cloquet has taken note of their persistence. As a result, on 2/2/16, the City Council and Parks Board of Cloquet voted to help fund the majority of the Skatepark ($270k on concrete alone). Since then, we have hired Stantec services as our designer and we are on the verge of sending bids to contractors.

Most recently, all three candidates for the Cloquet City Council At-Large seat enthusiastically supported the skatepark initiative. In a 2/4/16 pine journal article, Ward 2 City Councilor David Bjerkness stated “I have never been as impressed as I am with this group of kids.” “They have worked so hard.” Ward 1 City Councilor Jeff Rock agreed and Mayor Dave Hallback has also given support.
The Cloquet Parks and Recreation board estimates that we will break ground in Athletic Park early summer 2017.
As of right now we have the funds to build option A (roughly $260k);
Option B (profile picture) is the preferred option as it includes a bowl that will give a variety of riding options. We need an extra $50k to make that happen. With potential grants in the works, donations from local corporations and individuals like yourself we can make this happen! Please donate to help us supplement our skatepark fund so we can have a quality space for skaters to enjoy for years to come!
