Hey everyone. My name’s Eric. I’m an independent game developer, and I’m currently in a massive fight to save my vision.

I’ve been battling severe, complex diabetes alongside chronic kidney disease, and the combination has completely wrecked the micro-vessels in my eyes. I have Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and have been going through multiple heavy surgeries on both eyes just to keep my retinas attached. I recently had the silicone oil pulled out of my right eye, and I go back under the knife for my left eye in just a couple of weeks.

My entire life and livelihood revolve around screens. Whether I’m coding, doing pixel art, or just gaming to decompress, my eyes are everything. Right now, my functional vision is incredibly warped and blurry, and whether I will recover enough sight to keep developing games is completely uncertain. It is a terrifying waiting game.

I’m putting this out there to ask for help covering the mounting medical bills, surgery deductibles, and the endless costs of the insulin pump supplies keeping me alive. I’m just trying to keep my head above water for my wife, our dog Luna, and our two cats-Fitty, and Belly.
