As most of you know my Dad was admitted into the hospital July 17, two days after his 47th Birthday. Less then 24 hours after being admitted his life and our families lives had changed forever! He was diagnosed with leukaemia, within 24 hours of diagnoses my Dad and Mom were air vac'ed to Vancouver General Hospital! None of us had much time to process things and there were so many questions and little answers!
My dad has a very rare form, it's called mixed phenotype acute leukaemia (essentially he has two types of cancer cells in his bone marrow, there are about 5 cases in the whole year!!) This specific type of cancer means double the treatment and a lot longer process. The doctors have told my parents the best case scenario they will be home January next year, however very realistically it won't be until next July! Expenses are adding up quickly, life still goes on even when your in the hospital!! It breaks my heart knowing the added stress they are under trying to make ends meet. The immediate costs are very great, my mom has not left my fathers side and the hospital supplies him with meals however she has had to eat out every day for the last 5 weeks, they have a mortgage at home to pay for along with unfinished Renos, many of you do not know this but their business is also in their personal name aswell, they also have the added expense of an apartment in the heart of Vancouver (2100/month for a one bedroom suite about the size of my living room)....the list goes on.
As my dad fights for his life the last thing he should worry about is finances! I'm hoping to ease that burden my asking you for help!
This last Month has been the hardest thing myself and my family has ever endured! I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support!! The prayers, kind words and thoughts are emotionally very overwhelming Thank you!! It means the world to us!!
