Help Fix Fido's Mouth Palate

On August 18, 2017, our family rescued a loving and energetic dog named Fido from the Providence Animal Center in Media, PA. He was rescued off the streets from the “Fundación A.M.A.R. Organization” in Puerto Rico.
While being homeless on the streets, he was fed by guards at a local prison. After getting a check-up, he was flown to the U.S. and was transported to the Providence Center. Instead of the usual two-week period they require to observe and check the health of the animals, he was mistakenly only there for two days when we rescued him.
Upon bringing him home, we noticed that he had a violent sneeze and cough. We were warned by the Animal Center that he could have kennel cough, so we thought the symptoms were caused by that. The joy and excitement of having a new home seemed to make his kennel cough worse. When he was fed, he choked on his food and it allowed his current symptoms to increase. Thinking it would help him, we gave him water and sadly it only gave us the same result.
After a week of continued problems, we brought him back to the Providence Animal Center. After X-rays and observation, they said he had a bronchial infection in his lungs, but they could not find the reason for the infection. They recommended that we raise his feeding bowls so that eating, and drinking would be easier and they also gave him medication.
Needless to say, when the medication ended, the bronchial infection came back again. Through a playful accident, we noticed a hole in the roof of his mouth. After doing some research the exact symptoms he has are all associated with Oronasal Fistula.
Our vet concluded that surgery would be required to repair the hole. Since this operation to fix his mouth will be costly, we will appreciate any donation amounts. All donations that exceed the cost of the surgery will be donated back to the Fundación A.M.A.R. Organization. Thank you!
