Help for Dogs Harmed by K9 AI

K-9 Assisted Independence was a training facility for dogs, including service dogs.  In May of this year, it was learned and confirmed that many animals there had been neglected, mistreated, and/or abused.

Dogs belonging to other people and being trained in that facility were returned to their owners, many with serious health problems including worms, infectious diarrhea, and ticks (some of the dogs had more than 100 ticks on them and puppies were anemic due to ticks).  Many of the dogs also had behavioral issues believed to be caused by being left alone in kennels for extended periods of time and possibly being beaten.  Many dogs were also severely underweight, just skin and bones.  The Great Dane pictured here was one such name.  His name is Legend and he is just one of many that were seriously malnourished.

Most of the dogs and other animals have been placed in foster homes.  Many of these are also in very poor shape and need much vet care.  For instance, one dog had recently given birth and both the mom and the puppies are very ill.  They had also been kept in a pen that was not adequate or safe for the puppies, so a new pen is needed for the growing pups.

A wonderful group of caring people worked tirelessly to rescue all the animals at the facility and make sure all found safe homes.  Another group of individuals is organizing this fundraiser to help those whose dogs were harmed at K9AI pay for the care they need as well as to help those that have opened their homes to foster dogs from the facility.  Many of these animals need extensive vet care due to neglect and abuse.   They may also need special help to recover from the psychological trauma they have experienced.
