Help for Su
Beschermde donatie
This page has been set up in order to offer urgent financial support to Su Gorman whose husband Steve died just before Christmas 2018 as a direct result of being infected with Hepatitis C through contaminated NHS blood products. Su is currently unable to access any support and is penniless, with the prospect of homelessness within days. This is entirely due to the government’s handling of support for contaminated blood victims, specifically the English Infected Blood Support Scheme who have seen fit to stop Steve's payments without proof of death, whilst conversely also requiring a death certificate before Su is paid any money as a widow. As a result we hope that the community will assist Su in this time of direst need through this GoFundMe page. TaintedBlood as organisers are extremely grateful for any support you might be able to offer Su at this time.
Notes: In the event that this money or a portion thereof is returned to Tainted Blood, it will be used as a contingency fund to help any future widows in similar circumstances. Should there ever not be a need to retain the funds for this purpose, it will be put towards a permanent memorial to the victims and families of the Contaminated Blood Scandal.
Information for donors:
Tainted Blood is a campaign group, currently with no official organisational status, set up in 2006 by me, Andy Evans, and Gareth Lewis (now deceased). It was created to bring together those affected by the contaminated blood scandal in the United Kingdom, and had three main aims: 1) To secure a Public Inquiry into the scandal; 2) To secure a meaningful apology for the scandal and the subsequent treatment of its victims; and 3) To secure full compensation for those affected.
We are currently in the midst of the largest Public Inquiry that the UK has ever seen, partly thanks to the tireless work of campaigners over more than three decades.
Tainted Blood is able to exist through the generosity of many people who volunteer their time to make it all happen. Su Gorman is one such person. She has for many years been our press liaison and has helped to further the campaign enormously. I am also proud to call her my friend, as I was Steve when he was alive. We all feel a duty to look after one another, and this is the conduit through which we can help Su at her time of most need.
The money donated is paid into Tainted Blood's treasurer's bank account, and from there is transferred directly to Su via BACS. It was set up this way because at her time of crisis, Su did not have a bank account of her own. All funds donated through this GoFundMe campaign, after GoFundMe's fees have been deducted, have and will continue to be paid to Su directly.
Thank you again for your generosity. Both Su and I are eternally grateful.
Andy
